VIDEO EDITING

Bilingual Lyric Videos

The goal: To create bilingual lyric videos that allow learners to follow along with the German while still having the English there to glance at if needed.

The challenge: The average adult can read 3-4 words per second. Having the lyrics in two languages means a lot of text onscreen at once, and the timing is determined by the flow of the music —the text has to move on when the music does.

How I got there: By using different fonts and sizes for English and German text I made it easier for the viewer to choose to follow one or the other.

The results: Despite having no following in my Youtube account, the first video has garnered impressive traction, accumulating over 114,000 views. The second hasn’t been up as long, but it’ll get there.

The original music video for Für die Liebe was shot in an abandoned industrial space in East Berlin, surrounded by graffiti-covered cement walls. For the background of my lyric video, I superimposed a silhouette of the musicians from the video onto a photo of the Berlin Wall, tying the imagery to its filming location.

Wunder Gesche’n has a very dreamy sound, and the version I like best is from a concert video shot at night, so I took my aesthetic from that vibe with the starry night background and making the text kind of float and shimmer.

Instructional Videos

The goal: To create a series of instructional videos explaining how to use the MakerMadeCNC, a device that uses a router and a computer to cut designs out of whole sheets of plywood.

The challenge: I’d done rough carpentry before, but never with computers! This was really outside my wheelhouse.

The results: By the time we were done, I’d created the user manual I was originally hired to create, and I’d also set up a CNC up in my garage, learned how to use it, and made over a dozen videos. Most of my work is in 2D, so this was a particularly fun project.

Youtube

I created a series of videos showing how to use the computer tools step by step, like this video for beginners on how to use MakerCam, software used in tandem with the CNC.

Instagram

I created short videos for sharing on social media showing project builds, like this video showing the building of a cornhole board from start to finish,.
